I'm using an i7 computer, so it's not a slow computer either. I'm using the 3D version of CADian, but I'm wondering if there's a way to switch to a 2D version that loads without using the 3D version at all.

There is no function to turn off the use of 3D. I will attach a LISP file that can help speed up the process. Please enter the LISP program into the AP command under the 'bottom start' set, exit CADian, and then re-enter. Loading will be automatic. Once in CADian, enter command 'SUP' and then proceed to draw your diagrams. This should allow for a faster drawing environment.
